I recently had the pleasure of working on a really fun project for Westchester magazine. The project was a cover Illustration for a regular supplement called 914, and the subject was “How to Get Along With Your College Roommate”.
Having NOT gotten along with my college roommate, I was looking forward to this one.
Based on the fact that the article was written by the magazine’s editor, Art Director Aiko Masazumi and I agreed that a portrait of him and his roommate was a good start, and I added in loosely descriptive icons to go along with each of the 5 tips given in the piece. There’s definitely more pressure to get a likeness right with you’re drawing the magazine’s editor, which led to a more realistic approach including geeking out way too heavily on shading a chocolate bar.
